Volunteer Central Legacy Grant

When Volunteer Central dissolved in February 2022, the choice was made to endow the remainder of the agency’s assets to create a legacy that supports the development and sustainability of volunteerism in Central Alberta.

The Volunteer Central Legacy Grant is a $500 microgrant that is available to agencies to supplement a blended combination of professional development or capacity building requests. There are a total of two microgrants available annually.

Eligibility:

Applicants must be a qualified donee as determined by Canada Revenue Agency and the Income Tax Act of Canada. To check if your organization is a registered charitable qualified donee search here on the CRA website. If your organization does not have charitable status or is not a qualified donee, we can consider an application in partnership with another organization that is a registered charity or qualified donee with a mandate relevant to your proposal.

Applicants must be operating in and/or serving within a region centered around Red Deer, Alberta. The catchment area extends to the following boundaries:

  • North: To Maskwacis
  • South: To Didsbury
  • West: To Rocky Mountain House
  • East: To Coronation
    * Excluding the Special Areas

Financial Parameters:

The funding request is $500 annually. Agencies may request funding for a blended combination of professional development or capacity building requests.

Administration:

The Volunteer Central Legacy Grant Program will be administered by the Community Foundation of Central Alberta, which has the responsibility to ensure the Legacy Fund is properly invested and managed. The number of awards given each year and the successful applicants will be chosen by an Awards Selection Committee which will be comprised of:

  • An administrative representative of the Community Foundation;
  • Two community members, with commitment to and experience in advancing volunteerism

Applications will open each January. Awards will be announced each year during National Volunteer Week.

The 2025 deadline is March 1st, 4:00pm.
