Rex Turple Memorial Hockey Education Scholarship

The Rex Turple Memorial Hockey Education Scholarship was established to honor the legacy of Rex Turple, a dedicated hockey player and coach. Born on April 17, 1930, Rex’s passion for the sport began in Olds, Alberta, where he played minor hockey before advancing to the Olds Elks Intermediate A team. Over his illustrious career, Rex played with the Ponoka Stampeders, who won the Western Canadian Intermediate A Championship in 1955-56, and the Red Deer Rustlers, who also claimed the championship in 1958-59. Rex’s dedication to hockey took him internationally, coaching and playing in Scotland, England, and Austria.

Even into his later years, Rex continued his love for the game, playing senior hockey in Kamloops, BC, and participating in old-timers hockey with the Capri Colts of Red Deer at the age of 59. Rex passed away on October 15, 1990, but his contributions to hockey and the community continue to inspire.

This scholarship is awarded to students who play hockey for the Red Deer Vipers or in the Heritage Junior “B” Hockey League, providing financial support to young athletes who share Rex’s passion and commitment to the sport.
